Was the price boom in the 1980s or 1990s? I can't remember... Apologies if I got it wrong

Oh well - anyway, we bought it for half that it was advertised for in 1997...

Yes, the interior work is high quality. Everything is leather. The car is featured in Peter Meaney's book (p.56). 725 hours (at 15GBP) were spent on the car (at least that's what the invoice says)...

More to follow (sometime soon).

Lucky for us, we live in So. California, where it never rusts.

A second R5 Turbo 2 "T300" Tuner car, late '85 1460 cc W/alloy roof
Westfield XI, chassis 129 1380 Sprite engine with Datsun 5 speed gearbox. This one is undergoing a full rebuild after wearing it out. Back on the road in a couple of months.
Noble M400 Yes, there are about 220 of us here in the US with this "best sports car in the world".
07 VW GTI DSG something for my wife to drive
'94 Mercedes C280 'cause sometimes we need a sedan

Wish list: Alfa Romeo GTA, Morgan 4/4 hot rod with a two liter SVT Ztec, Lancia Stratos

Hi there,
Can't believe how many cars people have!!
The T2 with the interior mods is 80's cool indeed, personally I love it!!

1986 RHD, R5 T2
1990 VW MK2 Golf with VR6 engine(for sale soon)
2002 W8 Passat(collecting 28/06)

And thats it :(

Anyone got an opinion on Dyno / rolling road sessions in T2's?? Met a few guys from Renault Turbo Club last Saturday, spoke to John Price and he advised not to go on due to cooling issues etc-so obviously didn't want to risk it(only one really large front fan in garage) one of the GTT's there did 282bhp at the wheels!!!

Cheers

No reason not to run the car on the dyno. However, the cooling issues are important. The after cooler wont be getting a full supply of cooling air, so HP readings may be off a little, and there is a chance of detonation. The dyno may be used for some tuning issues, such as the proper CO setting, and checking the systems for proper function.

As for accuracy, I feel that most of the numbers are simply made up. The important information is the graph of the power output, and not so much the actual HP. Dynos that can't load the drive train are usually inaccurate by about +50 HP once the 300 HP level is approached. They are good for tuning, as the repeatability is pretty good, but the actual power output is always suspect.

There's been a few changes to our "Other Classics" list since my recent enforced virtual silence (laptop died). My Integrale's gone (for 1200 quid more than I paid for it 12 months ago) and has been replaced by a 2000 Subaru Impreza WRX (Jap spec blue bugeyed model with correct 247 bhp motor). I know it's not as exciting as the Lancia, but the wife prefers driving it and it goes like s*it off a shovel, so who am I to complain. She made me spray the gold wheels silver though!

Still my brother's p*ssed on my bonfire by buying a mint 21000 mile 1997 Ferrari 456 GTA, as well as a 2000 Alfa 166 3.0 V6.

The Integrale's gone, the Suburus more practical though................least you made a profit, got the W8 now(tiptronic) is a fantastic car apart from fuel consumption and needs suspension upgrading

Starter motor went recently(costs covered by garage I bought it from) was £750 bill !!!! Couldn't believe the amount of work involved to change it-subframe / suspension removed etc.........

Are you going to the Chatsworth Rally show 29th / 30th Sep?

Daz, can't go to Chatsworth: 2nd baby's due about then, so missus wouldn't be best pleased if she suddenly had to drive herself to the hospital whilst I'm swanning around at the rally show! I Took my 2 year-old son out for his first trip in the T2 the other day (child seat fits OK). He seemed to enjoy it, but still managed to fall asleep!

Glad to hear you got the W8. Funnily enough I saw one up at Aberdeen airport carpark yesterday: bright blue estate. I guess 20MPG is a bit costly (my 140bhp Passat diesel does 50+MPG), but that's the price of a fast car. You probably don't get much better than 20MPG from your 1.4litre T2 with less power and less weight. Ditto 2 litre integrale.

No worries Michael-are you going to the Renault thing this weekend?(forgot the name but its a big event) I'm away from this Sunday for 2 weeks and daughters got a football match Saturday so I can't go to this, still havn't got car serviced due to rain!!

Coral(daughter 9 yrs) actually asked for a ride in my car recently, shes never bothered before!! and she was vastly impressed with the turbo noise & accelaration of the 'little black car' she was even more impressed than the heated seats in the W8!!! I'm amazed :)

Can't get into my E-Mails today, so can't log into the other original R5 site without this(I'm rubbish on PC's) but seen you've replied over there.....

JPR wants £80 for a new petrol cap(original packaged Renault) + £60 for 3 nearly new luggage straps+VAT !! :( !! spoke to Mark (Maxi man) and hes had so many people wanting the straps that I think hes gonna E-bay them........scoured all the R5 French specialists last night and couldn't find a petrol cap or straps anywhere / or out of stock, sent JPR the cheque today-Missus couldn't believe the price.....

Hope fully we'll meet soon, still never seen a Silver T2 in the flesh.....................
