I'm new here

Postby gordini » Sun May 23, 2010 2:55 pm

Hi People,
I am new here to the forum and i see its a new forum as well. Its great!!
I am from South Africa and the R5Turbo's are very scarce here. It happened because Renault pulled out of SA in the early 80's and only returned a couple of years ago. I am known in SA as Mr Gordini...because of all the R8 Gordini's i've owned and still owns 2. It was always in my mind to own the R5T...the midmounted version. Bacause there is only about 5 in the country i've decided to build meself a lookalike. And this is were you guys will need to assist in technical advice. I already bought a Le Car and the complete body kitt. I am still in doubt which engine and gearbox i can fit. I want to keep it Renault. Thinking of the 1600turbo Fuego concept. I can lay my paws on a complete car for a good price.
Please help me with suggestions
Thnx guys

Hey Basie,

Welcome here. Good luck on your project. You might want to open a dedicated topic on it.

I guess choosing the rear suspension, gearbox and engine will be one of the first steps if you want to have it mid-engined. You might want to consider:
- transferring a complete engine-gearbox-suspension from a front engined car.
- for a longitudinal setup I guess you are basically restricted to two types of Renault gearboxes: the 365 (as in the 5 alpine) or the 369/UN-1 boxes (R5 Turbo, R21, R25 etc)
- I know of an R5 GT Turbo with a mid-engined setup that uses an R21 Turbo engine and gearbox and an Alpine A610 suspension.

Any pictures of your cars?

Cheers,
Erik
