Steering Tie Rod ends

Postby Nate » Tue Sep 22, 2009 11:25 pm

Just wondering if anyone has knowledge on the tie rod ends of a LHD -> RHD converted car.
Which rack is typically/always used?

Best place for some new tie rod ends?

Just out of interest whilst we are on this subject. My car is RHD I suspect the rack came out of a 5 gordini or Gordini Turbo, they are probably the same.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get parts for a quicker rack, there is an astonishing amount of wheel turning involved in making the simplest of manouvres.

I know it would make the steering heavier, but something slighty quicker would be nice.

The Power Steering rack from the TX is the quickest of the standard racks. I would have thought that the rack you have may well not be from a Gordini/Gordini Turbo.

You need to measure lock to lock in order to confirm. The Haynes manual has the specs. I think the Gordini rack is a bit quicker.

Thanks,

My rack appears to be 3.7 turns lock to lock which matches the spec in the Haynes manual. I think the the LHD turbo 2's are 3.2 turns.

I had an idea that may be it would be easy to get a quick rack kit in France for a Renault 5 (bit like an escort here) and possibly that a quick LHD rack code be fitted the other way around in a RHD casing...but this is probably all wishful thinking

Thanks Mark, I'll dump that idea then.

At least the car is running now.
